Stamp Duty

A tax paid by the buyer on property purchases in Malta, standard rate 5%, with a first-time buyer exemption on the first €200,000.

Stamp duty is charged on Malta property purchases at a standard rate of 5% of the property value or purchase price, whichever is higher, payable by the buyer. Since 28 October 2025, first-time buyers pay 0% on the first €200,000 and 5% on any excess, under a scheme made permanent in Malta’s Budget 2026.
